Orange considering expanding into South Africa and Nigeria
Orange CEO Stephane Richard says it could make sense to be in an economy such as SA.
French telecommunications company Orange has announced that it is considering further expansion into Africa, including South Africa and Nigeria.
Orange CEO Stephane Richard told Les Echos business newspaper that a move could happen within months.
“It could make sense to be in economies such as Nigeria and South Africa. If one considers there are things to do, the time frame I am considering is rather a few months than a few years away.”
Orange has previously had a physical presence in South Africa, primarily as a retailer and repairs outlet. But in November 2016, the store handed off its warranty and return queries to a separate company.
Orange’s reentry into South Africa is leading some analysts to speculate that Cell C will be a takeover target for the telecoms giant.
